Starr Insurance Introduces Twin Maples Specialty To Serve the Wholesale Market
Starr Insurance today announced the establishment of Twin Maples Specialty, a division of Starr Specialty Lines Insurance Agency, LLC, to focus on the wholesale brokerage community.
Twin Maples will be led by industry veteran Bob Gadaleta, Executive Vice President, Wholesale Commercial Insurance. Bob joined Starr to assume this newly created position, bringing over 29 years of insurance industry experience in underwriting and field sales leadership, including stints at Hiscox and AIG.
Twin Maples will focus on business placed through wholesale brokers, who continue to gain market share in the U.S. insurance landscape. The new Starr division will deliver products and client-focused solutions for the middle market and small business segments through a dedicated wholesale channel underwriting team.
Steve Blakey, Starr Insurance president, said, “We recognize the unique needs of the wholesale and retail brokerages, and Starr is committed to delivering solutions for all of our trading partners. Twin Maples Specialty will cater specifically to the casualty needs of wholesalers and their clients.”
Twin Maples Specialty is expected to enter the market in the next few months with professional liability and financial lines products, backed by A-rated carriers in both the excess and surplus lines and admitted markets.
Twin Maples will be based in Alpharetta, GA.

Starr Insurance’s Senior Investment Officer John Patin Leaves; John Shannon Named as Successor
New York, NY – April 4, 2023 – Starr Insurance Companies today announced that John Patin, senior investment officer, has resigned his position for personal reasons. John F. Shannon, formerly with Alleghany Corp., was named to succeed him.
“We wish John Patin great success in his future endeavors,” said Maurice R. Greenberg, chairman and chief executive officer, “We’re confident Mr. Shannon will serve Starr well, given his extensive experience managing insurance assets for some of the largest U.S. insurers.”
Shannon served as senior vice president and chief investment officer at Alleghany, which Berkshire Hathaway acquired in October 2022. Prior to Alleghany, Mr. Shannon spent more than 11 years at MetLife Investments as vice president, global portfolio management, following five years at Prudential Financial as an investment analyst. He is a chartered financial analyst and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from University at Buffalo and an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
